FLINT (WWJ) - A group of armed teenagers were apprehended for allegedly open firing at a Flint-area school on Friday afternoon maybe responsible for a string of other shootings in the area, police claim.
Michigan State Police said three minors and one adult male were arrested on June 16 following several 911 calls made around 1:30 p.m. regarding five teens entering a school off Western Road and firing off multiple shots inside.
Authorities said the school was not occupied at the time of the alleged shootings. When troopers arrived at the scene, they saw five young men walking away from the building, but they fled in all directions.
"Two juveniles were quickly apprehended after a short foot chase, one pistol was recovered," MSP said of the incident. "Troopers saw two subjects run away and gave chase into the woods, where the teens dropped a pistol with auto-sear attached."
MSP then received an anonymous tip with the caller reporting that two of the teens ran into a home on Winsford Bay. Troopers executed a search warrant and gained entry into the home where they located two of the suspects who ran from the school with two additional pistols.
Troopers said another adult male at the home was arrested for an unrelated warrant. It is unclear what happened to the fifth suspect that was caught by police. Authorities only said three juveniles were apprehended and one adult male was arrested.
With the suspects in custody, state police stated that believe the teens are behind other incidents of "shots fired" in the same neighborhood.
No other details were released by authorities. In addition to Flint troopers, MSP's K9 and ES Team assisted with the case.
