DETROIT (WWJ) - The two teenagers who allegedly tried to rob a full-uniformed, off-duty Detroit Police Department (DPD) officer on his way to work the Taylor Swift concert will be charged as adults.

The suspects were arraigned Friday afternoon in the 36th District Court before Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath. Dwayne Whitley, 16, was given a $200,000 cash bond, while Marlon Henderson, 17, was given a $175,000 cash bond.

"I do think this describes a very brazen act. I think there is absolutely dangerousness to the community. I am going to set a high cash bond for that reason," said Magistrate Ramsey-Heath.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Friday that Whitley and Henderson, both of Detroit, are charged in connection with the alleged officer-involved robbery on Saturday, June 10 on the city's west side.

“The defendants in this case attacked our victim, a police officer in full uniform on his way to work, for no apparent reason,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a Press Release. “Everyone in the gas station at that moment in time was extraordinarily lucky that this situation did not escalate into losses of life.”

According to the written statement, the alleged incident occurred at a gas station in the 18130 block of Joy Road near Southfield Road around 5:39 p.m.

Henderson is said to have robbed the DPD officer of his department issued firearm while Whitley pointed a handgun at the victim. According to the statement and as seen in surveillance video, it is also alleged that after a physical altercation, the officer regained control of his weapon and the defendants took off running.

The two teens turned themselves in after the security video of the incident was released to the public.

Whitley has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Disarming a Police Officer, one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and three counts of Felony Firearm.

Henderson has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Disarming a Police Officer, and two counts of Felony Firearm.

The officer was not injured in the altercation and no shots were fired.

Prosecutors say the suspects may have also been involved in carjackings and shootings in Detroit and Southfield.

A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, before Judge William McConico.

The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 23 at 8:30 a.m. and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 30 at 8:45 a.m. before Judge Patricia Jefferson.

Prosecutors say the investigation is ongoing.
