DETROIT (WWJ) - The box office of an iconic Detroit venue was badly damaged overnight when a vehicle crashed into it.
Witnesses spoke to WWJ’s Charlie Langton, who was on the scene. They say that a black SUV traveling north in the southbound lane of Woodward crashed into the outer box office of The Fillmore Detroit around 2:30 a.m. There is no word yet on what caused the driver to be in the wrong lane or hit the building.
Langton also spoke to people who were inside the building at the time. They said there was a “bang” and when they came outside they saw the black SUV with only a driver in the vehicle.
There are no reports of injuries at this time, but an ambulance was on scene.
Langton spoke to the owner of The Fillmore who said they were glad the driver didn’t hit a support pole because the damage could’ve been much worse.
The box office will be closed for repairs, however tickets can be bought online and the building will remain open at this time. The car did not go into the building itself.
WWJ Newsradio 950 has also learned that the Chris Young concert scheduled for Tuesday night is expected to go on as planned.
Police said they are investigating what led to the crash.
