DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit-based business featured on “Shark Tank” is opening a new store downtown.

The Lip Bar, a black woman-owned company, is opening its new flagship store in downtown Detroit. The store is on Woodward Avenue near Grand Circus Park.

The Lip Bar owner Melissa Butler was featured on the show “Shark Tank” several years ago. Cosmetic products are sold in stores like Target, Walmart and CVS across the country.

The Lip Bar was started while Butler was working on Wall Street and saw the need for a change in the beauty standard, store manager Antanika Robinson said.

“We want to be every inch of the way when it comes to the community and helping these women find their way when it comes to beauty,” Robinson said.

The store will not only sell cosmetic products, they will also offer appointments to get makeup done and services like eyebrow waxing.

Robinson said it’s been very important for the company to open a store in the city. “Being able to be right here where we’re from, in the heart of Detroit, it matters.”

The Lip Bar is located at 1444 Woodward Ave. Doors open at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 20.
