WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - Detroit’s skyline will light up in Ukraine’s national colors as Wayne State University officials arrange a prayer vigil, all in an effort to show support to those gravely affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Downtown Detroit Partnership said Beacon Park and Campus Martius will glow blue and yellow Wednesday night along with the city’s iconic skyline in solidarity with the many Ukrainians who call Michigan home.
“We want the people of Ukraine to know that others are thinking of them at this tumultuous time and they are supported by the diverse melting pot that is Detroit,” said Eric Larson, CEO, Downtown Detroit Partnership.
“They are not alone.”
Meanwhile Wayne State University plans to hold a peace vigil on their campus for Ukraine on Thursday evening.
WSU Dean of Students Office invited students, staff and surrounding community to join them at 5 p.m. at the Flagpoles on Gullen Mall as they gather to pray for the safety and well-being of Ukrainians caught up in the war.
The vigil is expected to last an hour.
