DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Several suspects are on the loose after they crashed a car through the front of a Wayne County gun shop early Thursday morning -- but ended up empty-handed. authorities said.

WWJ's Mike Campbell reported live from the scene at the Esko gun shop on Telegraph at Ann Arbor Trail in Dearborn Heights where busted windows and mangled interior fencing were all that was left at the crime scene after a red car was towed away.

He said the whole front of the store was taken out.

"The suspects used a vehicle, an automobile, to run right through the front of the store, obviously in an attempt to grab some guns, maybe some money, who knows, but they were thwarted," Campbell reported.

Police told Campbell the guns were locked away in a safe, preventing the thieves from getting away with any merchandise.

Authorities are still at the scene conducting an investigation into the incident. At this time, they say they are searching for at least two suspects, possibly more, but further details about the case have not been released.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
