CLARKSTON (WWJ) - A Clarkston Junior High School student is being held after authorities said she threatened to “shoot up” the school.

The 15-year-old, from Pontiac, was arrested Thursday morning after a note was found in one of the school’s bathrooms, according to a press release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.

A male student allegedly found the note, which was written on a paper towel, shortly before 11 a.m. The student reported what he found to school officials, who notified the resource officer.

The school remained in a “secure mode” for about an hour while deputies checked the building to determine how credible the threat was. The school stayed open, and students were released at their normal time.

Authorities said the investigation found that the student who allegedly made the threat didn’t have access to a gun nor do her parents also own any.

“This particular threat was deemed to be non-credible, but we will always fully Investigate and seek to hold the perpetrator accountable,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “I appreciate the work and diligence of our team.”

The juvenile court petition includes a charge of “domestic terrorism” due to the threat. A request for a tether was denied on Friday after a juvenile court referee reportedly found the student to be a “flight risk and a danger to society,” according to the statement.

The minor, who isn’t being named due to her age, is being held at Oakland County Children’s Village until a hearing scheduled for April 18.
