MELVINDALE (WWJ) - A fight between two groups of teens outside the Melvindale Civic Center escalated into shots fired, injuring multiple people over the weekend.

WWJ's Mike Campbell said the Sunday night fight was allegedly spurred on by a social media dispute between the two groups of teens -- roughly 20 people -- who then decided to meet up and "duke it out."

According to Campbell, the young men originally met at an elementary school in Melvindale, but ended up leaving and meeting again at the Melvindale Civic Center located at 4300 S Dearborn Street around 9 p.m.

"Witnesses say someone in a ski mask pulled out a gun and started shooting indiscriminately," Campbell reported. 'Three 18-year-olds were struck."

The victims, all from Melvindale, were taken to a local hospital where they remain hospitalized in stable, but serious condition, Campbell said.

Now police are searching the gunman or gunmen responsible for open firing.

"Not much of a description," Campbell said, "but maybe as many as up to three people that they're looking for."

Melvindale police released a photo of at least one masked teen they're looking for as a person of interest in the case.

No other details have been released about the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
