COMMERCE TWP. (WWJ) The Oakland County Sheriff's Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested three men in connection to the deadly shooting of a young man at the Proud Lake Boat Launch in Commerce Township.

"It is a senseless and brutal act," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

Sheriff's officials said deputies arrested the suspects on Thursday, February 19, after conducting several searches related to the case. All three of the suspects are 19-year-old men, the same age as the victim. Two are residents of Romulus, and one is from Taylor.

Authorities said deputies arrested the Romulus men in their hometown, while they arrested the Taylor man in Garden City after he fled.

The victim was identified as Andre Avant Jr., 19, of Inkster.

Investigators found Avant's body at the boat launch, in the area of Benstein and Glengary roads, on Monday, February 16. The Oakland County Medical Examiner found he had a single gunshot wound to his head, and concluded his death a homicide.

"We have found no connection between the victim, the suspects and the community where the victim was discovered," Sheriff Bouchard said. "At this time, we have reason to believe the victim was brought to the area and murdered. It is deeply troubling to see individuals place so little value on human life."

Authorities said charges could be filed as soon as Monday.
