An animal cruelty investigation has been launched in Washtenaw County after three puppies and an iguana were found dead in a river.

The discovery was made last Thursday at Peninsular Park in Ypsilanti.

A woman walking her dog called the Humane Society of Huron Valley after she spotted a dead puppy in the water. The pup was floating near a dock on the Huron River.

An agent arrived and spotted the other puppies and the iguana. All four animals were frozen when they were discovered, but it's unknown how they died or how long they had been in the water.

Also unknown is how they ended up in the water.

The puppies were identified as pit bulls who were only a few days old. The iguana was roughly a year old.

Anyone with information should call the Humane Society of Huron Valley at 734-662-5585.
