Detroit

A teen pulled from the Detroit River was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detroit Police said their dive team and harbormaster were called to assist the Coast Guard after the 15-year-old boy went into the water and did not resurface.

Emergency response teams were able to locate him after a couple of hours of searching on Saturday night. However, his identity has not been released by police, and there has been little other information surrounding the incident.

Houghton County

Tragedy struck a family in northern Michigan after a 20-month old girl drowned in Torch Lake.

State Police say the Brighton girl wandered off while her family was staying at a campsite in Houghton County. She was found unresponsive in the water.

Family members and first responders performed CPR before taking her to Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, where she died.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Lake Huron

The DNR reported that an 8-year-old girl from Saginaw drowned near Tawas Point State Park late Saturday night.

The girl was at the park with her family, and she was swimming with a group, Peter Wright, the captain of the DNR's law enforcement division, said.

"Witnesses heard some yelling, saw a couple of people in distress, which happened to be two young girls," Wright said.

One of the girls was rescued and brought back to the shore, but the other went under and never resurfaced, Wright said.

The girl was located an hour and a half later by the dive team around 50 yards offshore in 20 feet of water. She was declared dead at around 5 p.m.

The DNR Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident.

Laplaisance Creek

Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported that a boat crash occurred on Sunday, Aug. 1, on Laplaisance Creek in Bolles Harbor.

Shortly after midnight, a call was made to Monroe County Central Dispatch that the boat struck a dock and overturned. One male occupant, a 37-year-old Monroe resident, was found and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The sheriff's office dive team was called to the scene and started conducting an underwater search for the other victim -- also a 37-year-old man from Monroe.

Francis (Frank) Brown III was found a short distance from the crash site. Brown was a lieutenant with the Monroe Township Fire Department. He served for 11 years.
