DETROIT (WWJ) - A grieving family is pleading for tips from the public in the case of a woman who was fatally shot outside her east side Detroit home.
Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the tip that leads to the arrest of the person who killed Yvette Sewell on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at around 9 p.m.
Investigators said Sewell, a 59-year-old mother of nine, had just parked her red Ford Explorer in her driveway at 4946 St. Clair St., near E. Warren Ave. and French Rd., when an unknown suspect shot her four times.
The shooter then fled the scene in a black pickup truck, with a second unknown suspect behind the wheel.
Sewell's family believes she was ambushed in the neighborhood where she'd lived for more than 20 years.
"I understand you're supposed to bury your parents, they're not supposed to bury you. But for my mother to murdered like this... that's just not right, you know?" Arneice Sewell said, speaking at a Crime Stoppers news conference.
She said her mom made it as far as her front porch before she died, and that's where her body was found about six hours later.
Now, nearly two month's since the murder, no witnesses have come forward with information to help police identify the shooter.
"If you know anything, could you please just call Crime Stoppers and leave a tip? We would be so appreciative," Arneice Sewell said.
Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (1-800-773-2587), and online at 1800speakup.org. As always, all those who contact Crime Stoppers will stay 100% anonymous, and will not be required to speak to police or to testify in court.
All rewards are also paid anonymously.
