DETROT (WWJ) -- The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority has released details on toll prices for the new Gordie Howe International Bridge.
Fees range from $5.75 to $8.75 in U.S. dollars, with pricing based on passenger and commercial vehicle classifications, the number of axles and vehicle height.
The Ambassador Bridge currently charges $10 to $20 to cross.
People who cross regularly can also sign up for the Breakaway Program, designed for both businesses and commuters. Those who sign up will get tag to attach to their vehicle that automatically deducts from a prepaid account or charges to a business account as you drive through — eliminating the need for cash or cards.
The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority is offering both business and personal accounts for a discounted rate. Breakaway members will pay between $4.35 and $6.90 to cross.
Set to open this spring, officials with the Gordie Howe International Bridge project say the bridge will transform how people and goods move across North America, providing a direct, highway-to-highway connection between Ontario’s Highway 401 and Michigan’s Interstate-75.
Designed with six traffic lanes, 16 toll lanes, and 60 Canada and US inspection lanes, officials say the bridge will provide "efficient, safe and secure processing" for both commercial and passenger vehicles.
An exact date that the bridge will open has not yet been announced.
