MELVINDALE (WWJ) -- It's not affecting travel, but a train derailment has been attracting a lot of attention Downriver, Friday morning.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reports rail workers have called in extra help as they work to upright and move several train cars off the tracks, near the rail yard in Melvindale.
Scott Sisk said he was driving to work — under the Dix Road overpass, between Outer Drive and Oakwood Blvd. — when he looked up and saw it.
"It looked a little strange; they were kind of on their side," Sick said. "One was up in the air, and as I went under the bridge, I came around into the neighborhood and I looked and looked like a bunch of rail cars that just ran into a bunch of stopped rail cars."
Reporting from the scene, Campbell said that's a pretty good description of the situation.
There are no reports of any injuries.
The right lane of Dix is closed in that area, but the road is open with traffic flowing normally.
Campbell said the train appears to be carrying car parts.
Cleanup was underway before 9 a.m., but it looks like it's going to take some time.
It's not clear at this time what caused the derailment.
