MONROE (WWJ) - Authorities in Monroe said a 30-year-old man was struck and killed by a train as he walked along the railroad tracks early Friday morning.
The Monroe Public Safety Department said the fatal crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. after train crews immediately reported to police that they had hit a pedestrian in the area of Roessler Field on W. Elm Ave. near N. Roessler St.
As responding officers arrived on scene, they located the crash site on the CSX Railroad tracks approximately 800 feet south of the W. Elm Ave. Police said their investigation revealed the victim, 30-year-old Ryan Vance Hall of Monroe, was walking on the railroad tracks when the train, traveling northbound, struck him.
Authorities said Hall was pronounced deceased at the scene and his family has been notified.
The Monroe Police Accident Investigation Team, Evidence Technicians and Detective Bureau were assisted by Michigan State Police on location.
The following road crossings are currently closed and effect traffic in Monroe as the investigation remains active:
• W Elm Ave
• W Front St
• W Seventh St
• Dunbar Rd
"Emergency crews are working to clear the area and re-open road closures as soon as possible," officials added. "Please find an alternate travel route and avoid the area. Roads are expected to re-open in the next several hours."
