GROVELAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - One state trooper was seriously injured following a near head-on collision with another driver in northern Oakland County on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Michigan State Police said the trooper was taken to the hospital after the crash, which occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Dixie Highway near Clarkston in Groveland Township.

Photos of the patrol car and four-door truck show it was a near head-on collision.

According to MSP, the trooper was heading south on the highway in the right lane with the driver of the pickup truck tried to pass a salt truck while heading northbound.

"The pick up driver lost control, crossed over all lanes of travel and struck the patrol car," troopers said in a social media update on the case.

The trooper was said to have sustained serious injuries to his leg and hip in the collision and transported to Genesys Hospital in Grand Blank.

The truck driver was also taken to the hospital with minor injures, MSP added.

While the investigation is ongoing, police did say that the driver behind the wheel of the truck was at-fault.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ for the latest updates.
