OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) — Michigan State Police was out in force this morning, looking to catch drivers not paying attention to the road or speeding along stretches on I-696.
Troopers called it "Operation Pay Attention," on their Twitter Wednesday morning and said the Metro North Post would be staked out between Woodward and Dequindre throughout the day in marked and unmarked cars looking for unsafe drivers.
"As you are reflecting on the amount of pączki you ate yesterday, you may want to think about your driving habits as well," MSP warned on Twitter.
In attention to distracted drivers, MSP said troopers will also go after reckless driving, to include speeders and tailgaters, who — according to troopers — cause the most vehicle cashes.
The operation comes after a new national report was released earlier this morning, showing a disturbing rise in roadway deaths across the nation.
MSP reported close to 150 deaths on Michigan roadways so far this year, with 21 fatalities occurring within the last week alone.
