Troopers discover nearly a dozen shell casings outside Royal Oak Twp. apartment complex following reports of shots fired

State police are continuing to investigate after gunfire erupted outside an Oakland County apartment building late Monday evening.

ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - State police are continuing to investigate after gunfire erupted outside an Oakland County apartment building late Monday evening.

According to Michigan State Police, a report of multiple shots fired was made shortly before 11 p.m. on Monday, July 24 outside of an apartment complex in Royal Oak Township.

A woman told 911 dispatchers that she and her boyfriend were standing in a parking lot in the area of Fitzgerald Blvd. and Mendota Avenue, just north of 8 Mile, when they saw an unknown man fire a gun four times.

The man then go into a vehicle and left, heading towards Mendota.

When troopers got to the scene, they searched the area and found nine shell casings.

State police spoke with several residents at the apartments, who said they believed they heard fireworks going off.

MSP said no other evidence was collected and no victims were found. There is no information about the supposed suspect at this time.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
