Police searching for armed suspect in ski mask who pistol-whipped Troy man during suspected robbery attempt

TROY (WWJ) - An armed suspect who allegedly pulled a gun on a Troy resident and struck him in the head during an attempted robbery early Thursday morning is on the run after the victim fought back, police say.

The Troy Police Department said the victim, a 46-year-old man, sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident which occurred shortly before 2 a.m. in the area of Wilmet Drive.

According to a social media post by the department, officers were dispatched to the scene on reports of an assault and possible robbery attempt. When they arrived, they located a male victim with a head injury.

Police said the man had come home during the night where he was confronted by a Black male wearing a ski mask in the driveway. The suspect produced a handgun and struck the victim.

"A struggle over the handgun ensued and a single round was discharged into an unoccupied vehicle," the department added.

The suspect took off on foot, leaving the injured victim behind. Police said the man was taken to a local hospital -- he is expected to be OK.

No arrests have been made in the case as of 11 a.m. Thursday morning, but authorities said they are continuing to investigate.

Troy police officers were assisted by law enforcement agencies from Birmingham, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, Clawson, Beverly Hills, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office immediately following the incident.
