TROY, Mich. (WWJ) -- An Oak Park man is behind bars after falling asleep in his car while he was drunk and had a gun tucked in his pants.
Troy police were called out to the scene of a car blocking the northbound lanes of John R Street near Gulliver Street around 11 p.m. on Oct. 27, where they found a man sound asleep in his vehicle.
Police say the 53-year-old Oak Park man was sleeping in the driver's seat of his red 2013 Jeep station wagon, which was parked in the middle of the road.
When officers woke him up, he told them that he was on his way to Detroit after leaving a bar in Royal Oak. Officers noted the man's eyes were glazed and watery and his breath smelled of alcohol.
The man, whose name was not released, had a tough time finding his insurance and registration and while looking for it, police noticed he was holding a concealed pistol license, or CPL.
When police asked if he had any weapons in the vehicle, he told officers he had a handgun tucked in his waistband. Officers found a loaded Glock Model 23 .40 caliber handgun and an additional 22-round magazine in his left cargo pocket.
The man performed poorly on several sobriety evaluations before blowing a .137% on a breathalyzer test.
He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up Facility, where he blew a .11% twice.
He has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and carrying a concealed pistol while under the influence of alcohol.
Police did not disclose any details about his arraignment.
