Troy teen killed in single-car crash on I-96 in Ingham County, two injured

OKEMOS (WWJ) A Troy teen died in a single-car crash on I-96 in Ingham County.

The Ingham County Sherif’s Office said they responded to a single vehicle crash on I-96 near Meridian Road on Saturday, April 19th, around 7:20 a.m.

According to sheriffs’ officials, a sedan traveling westbound veered off the roadway into the median and rolled “several times.” Two backseat passengers were thrown from the car.

The car came to rest in the eastbound lanes of I-96. No other vehicles were involved.

Investigators said a 17-year-old Troy boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old driver sustained “serious injuries.” A 20-year-old was critically injured, but is currently listed in stable condition.

A fourth occupant was not hurt. Everyone inside the car is from Troy, according to police.

The freeway was closed for the investigation for about four hours.

According to police; drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors. However, the crash remains under investigation.

The victim’s name was not released.
