(WWJ) Devoted supporters of former President Donald Trump have been called to gather en masse for a "Big Michigan Rally" in Lansing on Tuesday.
The event, scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. on the Michigan Capitol steps, is focused on the results of the 2020 election, which event sponsor the "Election Integrity Force and Fund" insists deserves another look.
In a statement Friday, Trump encouraged his supporters to attend the rally, during which he said, "Patriots will demand a forensic audit of the 2020 Presidential Election Scam."
"The voter fraud is beyond what anyone can believe," the ex-president said, in a statement. "Anyone who cares about our great country should attend, because unless we look to the past and fix what happened, we won’t have a future or a country. Matt DePerno, Rep. Steve Carra, and Kristina Karamo, who I have endorsed, will be there. Let’s Go, Michigan, don’t let us down!"
Other featured speakers listed on a flyer for the event include Liz Harris, Michigan Reps. Matt Maddock, Daire Rendon and John Riley and state Sen. Patrick Colbeck, to name a few.
The flyer states: "Let's show up, step up, and speak up! ... What's to lose? Our country if we don't demand and receive a full forensic audit."
This comes after state officials have said repeatedly that Michigan's election was conducted smoothly, with transparency and without evidence of fraud.
House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski said this planned event, aimed at overturning President Joe Biden's decisive win in the state, will only serve to further spread disinformation about the election.
Lasinski, who represents Washtenaw County's Scio Township, maintains that Trump's claims of widespread fraud are not only false, but also dangerous.
“This is the same inflammatory rhetoric that brought men armed with assault rifles to these very steps last year and endangered the lives of our lawmakers and staff," Lasinski said.
"This childish, petulant behavior is not only embarrassingly unbecoming of a former president, it’s downright dangerous. Efforts like this to undermine faith in our democracy are no longer just about overturning the 2020 election, they’re about eroding trust and laying the groundwork to overturn the next election. While these extremists are stuck in the past reliving Trump’s loss, Democrats are looking to the future and focused on beating back COVID-19 and bringing billions in relief funding home from D.C. to deliver support for working families.”
A spokesman for Michigan State Police tells WWJ Newsradio 950 that there are rallies at the Capitol every day, that this is no different, and MSP will be there to handle security.
It's not yet clear just how large of a crowd is expected. WWJ has a call out to event organizers for more information.
