INKSTER (WWJ) – Two Dearborn Police officers were shot while trying to make an arrest early Friday morning.

The Dearborn Police Department says it happened at approximately 2:30 a.m., August 21, in the area of Inkster Road and Van Born Road, on the border of Romulus and Taylor.

Investigators say the officers were undercover and attempting to arrest a suspect, when shots were fired. There are at least 25 evidence markers on the ground. There’s a Citgo gas station in the area, which was blocked off by crime scene tape. The undercover patrol cars remain at the station.

The officers were taken to the hospital and treated and released. The suspect was also shot and is currently listed in critical condition, according to police.

Dearborn Police say this remains an active and ongoing investigation. They didn’t provide much information about the original arrest attempt, or why shots were fired.

The Michigan State Police has also been requested to conduct the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
