FLINT (WWJ) Two Detroit Police officers, who are married to one another, have been arraigned in Genesee County on child abuse charges.
Jared Shaw and Liana Shaw, both 35 of Flint, are accused of abusing her teen and pre-teen children, who are his stepchildren.
According to FOX 2 Detroit, Flint Police were called to the home on March 1st for apparent abuse of a 12-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl. Sources told FOX 2 that the parents put each of the children in a chokehold employing "police tactical moves."
The officers were off-duty at the time.
Genesee County Prosecutors charged the couple with four felonies: assault with intent to do great bodily harm by strangulation, second and third degree child abuse, and third degree child abuse in front of another child. They were also charged with two misdemeanors: domestic violence and failure to report child abuse.
They were arraigned at 67th District Court earlier this week.
The Shaws have been suspended from the Detroit Police Department.
The Flint Police Department is leading the investigation.
