(WWJ) Two Monroe County first responders were injured after crashing into each other while responding to the same incident.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said troopers were dispatched to investigate a two-vehicle crash involving a volunteer firefighter for the county and a sheriff's deputy on Friday at 8 a.m., in the area of E. Dunbar and S. Dixie Highway.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Monroe County deputy was driving west on Dunbar on his way to an emergency. While traveling through the intersection; a Ford Pickup truck, driving south on Dixie Highway, "broadsided them." The Ford Pickup truck was driven by the volunteer firefighter.

Both the volunteer firefighter and the deputy were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No further details were released about the 'emergency' they were responding to.

Michigan State Police assisted in the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call State Police at (734) 242-3500.
