Two people are dead after their car crashed into a lake in Oakland County, police said.

The car went into Terry Lake, just north of downtown Pontiac just after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies said the car was submerged by the time they got there. A dive team recovered the car about 20 feet underwater.

Officials said the victims have been identified as Robert Grandberry, 69, and Cathy Grandberry, 67, of Pontiac.

Autopsies were conducted Wednesday, and the cause of death for both was ruled drowning by the Medical Examiner.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. and Mrs. Grandberry," the sheriff's office said, in a statement.

Officials said there are indications that Robert Grandberry may have had a medical issue prior to going into the lake.

Toxicology results are pending as the investigation continues.
