HARPER WOODS (WWJ) -- Repairs were affecting water service for some residents of Wayne County's Harper Woods on Thursday.

City officials said Thursday morning (1/2/25) that water would be shut off for homes and businesses near Harper Woods High School, while crews repair a water main break on Damman, near Beaconsfield. Officials said residents for several blocks, in all directions, would likely be without water for three to five hours.

When the water comes back, affected residents are instructed to run their water until it runs clear.

Residents were also asked to remove their vehicles parked along the streets so crews can do what they need to do.

The city said it will be working to schedule repairs on a second water main break at 8 Mile Rd. and Kelly.

Mike, who was working on repairs for the city's Department of Public Works told WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett they've been dealing with a lot of these breaks this winter.

"In the past week, we've done six," he said. "So, we're hoping it doesn't get worse, but there's no telling. They break when they want... It's not like something we can prevent. It's just, this is how it goes."

Officials are warning drivers to be careful because the roads may be extra icy in the area.
