THE U.P. (WWJ) -- Michigan's Upper Peninsula is no stranger to a lot of snow, but during a recent two-day storm record-breaking amounts of snow were dumped -- up to 50 inches in some neighborhoods.
During the major snow storm that began on Sunday and ended late Tuesday, the National Weather Service says several snowfall and precipitation records were broken.
More than 21 inches of snow piled up on Tuesday, which is the highest snowfall on record for a February day in the peninsula.
In Houghton County, meteorologists say the cumulative snow depth has reached 50 inches in some areas. Other areas received more than 30 inches of snow.
Neighborhoods are buried in this immense amount of snow, leaving residents with no choice but to toss away the shovel and bring in the tractors to dig out.
