State Police: Unconfirmed tornado picked up, flipped cars on Lodge Freeway

(WWJ) Michigan State Police responded to a multi-vehicle wreck on the freeway in Detroit Saturday night that's being blamed on a tornado.

According MSP, as severe storms moved through the area Saturday night, troopers were dispatched to northbound M-10, the Lodge Freeway, at M-8, the Davison, for a report of several vehicles rolled over.

At the scene, troopers spoke with an off-duty firefighter who told them he witnessed an unconfirmed tornado pick up two of the vehicles and flip them over.

Detroit Police also responded to several trees down in the area off the freeway, MSP said.

There are no reports of any injuries at this time.

This alleged tornado and several others — including one that left some major damage behind in Armada — are still awaiting official confirmation by the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, late Saturday night, sections of I-75 and M-39 were closed due to flooding, police said, and several other areas had water over the roadway, with only one lane passable.

MSP is urging everyone to drive with extreme caution.
