DETROIT (WWJ) - One woman is dead after a speeding driver without a license collided into her vehicle and struck her as she stood outside of it on I-96 in Detroit on Saturday morning.

Michigan State Police said they were called out to the scene on westbound I-96 near Evergreen Road just before 8 a.m. on March 4.

Road conditions were slick after a major snowstorm dumped inches of snow in the city. Police said the victim had initially crashed her own vehicle on the freeway and was standing beside her car when the fatal collision occurred.

According to police, a 21-year-old Southfield woman was speeding along the same stretch of road and also lost control of her vehicle, T-boning the victim's car and hitting her at the same time.

The victim was pronounced at the scene by authorities.

The 21-year-old woman was taken to the hospital -- her injuries are unknown at this time.

During the investigation, troopers discovered the at-fault driver who fatally struck the victim does not have a driver's license.

"This was another tragic crash that could have been avoided," said MSP Public Information Officer Lt. Mike Shaw. "We want to remind everyone to stay in your car after a crash. However, the at fault driver should have not even been on the road in the first place."

State police are currently trying to locate the victim's family. The crash remains under investigation.
