Camper that converts Tesla Cybertruck into RV hits $100 million in preorders: report

(WWJ) There's plenty of interest in EVs these days — and now the prospect of a futuristic EV-RV is getting some attention.

Business Insider reports artificial intelligence and software company Stream It is making attachments for the Tesla Cybertruck, which will convert the odd looking electric pickup into a popup camper.

The website says there are already $100 million in preorders for the nifty, if not thrifty, $50,000 product dubbed "CyberLandr."

Officials at CyberLandr says they anticipate the product will be ready for delivery approximately when Tesla begins producing and shipping Cybertruck to its list of reserved purchases. As for when that will happen, it's yet not clear.

The Cybertruck has had several delays, with production pushed from 2021 to at least 2022. And Tesla now says it will start making the vehicle sometime late this year.

When the Cybertrucks does eventually hit the road, WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert said we most likely will not see 100 million of these makeshift RVs around.

Pre-orders, Gilbert explained, basically amount to "industry buzz" ... and most don't turn into purchases.

This comes after last month WWJ Auto Analyst John McElroy reported there were already more than 1.2 million reservations for the Cybertruck. McElroy points out, however, that customers only need to pay $100 to make a reservation, reservations are refundable and non-binding.

Either way, McElroy said this "shows that a lot of people are more than ready for electric pickups."
