DETROIT (WWJ) – The Powerball jackpot now sits just under $2 billion after nobody had the winning ticket for Saturday's massive jackpot.

While no one struck it big and the jackpot moved to $1.9 billion, someone in Detroit is $1 million richer after buying a ticket with all five white balls.

The winning ticket was bought at K&G Deli on Conner Street near Chandler Park on the city's east side. The player matched the five white balls – 28-45-53-56-69 – but didn't have the No. 20 Powerball.

Lottery officials say Monday's record $1.9 billion jackpot comes with a cash option of $929 million. If someone wins it, it would be the largest lottery jackpot ever won.

The current world record jackpot of $1.568 billion was won on Jan. 13, 2016, split between three winners in California, Florida and Tennessee.

The last Michigan player to win a Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis, of Waterford, who won the game's $70 million jackpot on Feb. 12, 2020.

A $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot currently holds the record for the largest prize ever won in Michigan. That prize was won in January 2021 by an Oakland County lottery club and is the fourth largest prize won of all time.

Speaking live on WWJ Sunday morning, Jake Harris with the Michigan Lottery said more than eight million tickets were sold in Michigan for Saturday's jackpot.

"When we get to this amount of money, we see people that don't traditionally play lottery deciding to jump in and take their chance on winning a huge jackpot," Harris said. "I think it's safe to say everyone's taken notice and a lot of people are getting in the game."

While there were no jackpot winners, Harris says there were $102 million in prizes across the country in Saturday's drawing.

Powerball tickets can be purchased until 9:45 p.m. Monday at retailers throughout the state. Tickets can also be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.
