
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Officials in Dearborn are turning to the public for help in identifying an arson suspect who allegedly started a vehicle fire last weekend.
The owner of the damaged vehicle is now offering a $2,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who was caught on camera moments before the vehicle ignited.
The Dearborn Police Department along with the Dearborn Fire Department said via the Detroit News that they were dispatched to the fire reported around 1 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 in the 6900 block of Pinehurst.
When crews arrived on scene, they discovered an unoccupied vehicle engulfed in flames.
The flames were quickly extinguished by fire crews, but an investigators looking into the cause of the fire said evidence concludes it was arson.
“Thankfully the Dearborn Fire Dearborn Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the flames without further property loss," Dearborn police Chief Issa Shahin said on Friday. "I implore anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity this morning to provide this information to investigators."
Video surveillance in the same area captured what police say is the suspect on camera and a still frame of the footage was released to the public.
