WESTLAND (WWJ) -- An investigation is ongoing to figure out what exactly caused a home explosion in Westland Monday night.

The explosion happened just before 7 p.m. on May 5 at a vacant home on Calhoun Court, in the area of Palmer and S. Merriman, according to Westland police.

Authorities say nobody was injured in the blast and no other houses were damaged.

DTE Energy cut power to the house and Consumers Energy checked for potential underground gas leaks.

Paul, a neighbor, told WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell Tuesday he doesn't think the home is salvagable. He said the person who owns the home lives out of state.

Authorities have said no one was living in the home at the time of the explosion.

Officials are expected to provide more updates on Tuesday.
