Warm weather delaying fall colors in southeast Michigan

(WWJ) -- If you’ve noticed fall is looking a little less colorful than usual this year, you’re not wrong!

With the unseasonably warm weather the state has been experiencing for the past couple of weeks, fall colors are running about a week behind schedule.

WWJ’s Beth Fisher spoke with Michigan State horticulture and forestry professor Berg Cregg, who says the Upper Peninsula and northern Michigan are getting the first taste of autumn as the leaves change there first.

Thankfully, it shouldn't be much longer until metro Detroit gets to experience its annual explosion of fall color.

Cregg expects southeast Michigan will see the best colors later in October, or the first week of November.
