
WARREN (WWJ) - A Warren man is dead after police say he accidentally lit himself on fire while working in his backyard on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Warren police, fire crews were first called to the home on Toepfer Road west of Van Dyke Ave. around 4 p.m. after receiving reports of the incident.
When crews arrived, they found the local resident on fire in the street in front of his house. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, but the man could not be saved.
Police said he was declared dead at the scene.
So far, authorities have determined the incident as an accident. Based on the preliminary investigation, police said the man was working in his backyard when he some how lit himself on fire.
As he was burning, the man ran to the front of the home where he collapsed in the street.
No other information was made available and the victim's identify has not been released.
