TROY (WWJ) -- A Macomb County resident accused of drunkenly driving in the wrong direction after leaving a bar in Oakland County is facing possible jail time.
The 38-year-old Warren man has been charged with Operating while Intoxicated/Impaired 3rd Offense, according to Troy Police, after a traffic stop last Thursday, at E. Maple Rd. and Stephenson Hwy.
Police said officers pulled the driver over just before 2 a.m., after watching him pull out of the parking lot of a bar in a Buick Encore, and then drive eastbound in the westbound lanes of Maple Road.
When officers spoke with the man, they said they noticed a "moderate odor of intoxicants coming from his person," according to the police report.
The man was asked to take a series of field sobriety tests, but he performed poorly, police said.
He was then arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up where he agreed to submit to a Chemical Breath Test with results of .093% and .088% BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration), which is over the legal limit to drive in Michigan.
The man's name was not immediately released.
Under Michigan law, a third OWI conviction is punishable by either one to five years in prison or probation, along with 30 days to one year in jail, and a fine of up to $5,000. If the third offense occurs within seven years of a prior DUI, or within 10 years of two prior DUIs, then the driver's license will be revoked.
