Warren PD arrests 2 suspects after intense, high-speed chase through several Metro Detroit communities

WARREN (WWJ) - Police in Warren have two suspects in custody -- while one remains at large -- following a chase that went through several communities and ended with a crash in Hamtramck on Wednesday.

Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer released dash cam video of the police pursuit which resulted in the arrest of two out of three suspects that led cops from Warren all the way into Hamtramck on Nov. 15.

Dwyer said the trouble began in the City of Warren when patrol officers spotted a speeding black Dodge Ram truck with no license plate near 9 Mile Road and Ryan road just after 4 p.m.

Officers, who were in fully marked police cars, tried to stop the truck, but the Dodge peeled off. Police said the occupants in the vehicle were seen wearing ski masks before it fled.

The truck also matched the description of a vehicle allegedly used in a warren shooting case last week, the department added.

"Officers pursued the Dodge through several side streets in Warren with the Dodge intentionally ramming two separate patrol cars at various points in the pursuit," Dwyer said in a prepared statement. "The Dodge sustained damage from these impacts yet the suspects continued to flee from officers via numerous streets in Detroit."

As the pursuit neared Outer Drive, a wheel or rim fell off the Dodge and slowed the truck to a stop. The driver fled the truck and met up with two other people in a black Cadillac Escalade.

The Cadillac then took off and led police on a second chase through several side streets in Detroit and Hamtramck until the Cadillac crashed. All three occupants took off on foot, but Warren police officers quickly apprehended the driver and the passenger.

The third suspect was able to elude police after an extensive search of the area conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies, the department said.

Police were able to confirm the Dodge truck was stolen out of Sterling Heights.

No one was seriously hurt in the incident, with officers and bystanders sustaining only minor injuries from the intentional ramming and crash with the suspect vehicles.

"We are very fortunate that no officers or citizens were seriously injured as a result of these suspects' reckless actions," Dwyer stated.

The commissioner said the pursuit was very closely monitored and was conducted at moderate speeds at a time when traffic wasn't heavy.

"It is well known that stolen vehicles and their occupants are often involved in other crimes and, in this case, possibly crimes of violence occurring in Warren and possibly other surrounding communities," Dwyer continued. "I am confident that the two suspects will be facing various charges including fleeing & eluding amongst other felonies. I am also confident that our investigators will have the third suspect identified and arrested very quickly."

The commissioner applauded the actions of his officers and credited them for catching the suspects and preventing further danger to not just Warren, but to all communities.
