
Warren (WWJ) -- Warren police are investigating two fatal crashes that happened within hours of each other over the weekend.
Police say the first one occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, in the area of Groesbeck, south of 11 Mile Rd.
That's where a male driver crashed his Ford Escape and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said the second crash happened at around 3:40 p.m. Sunday, when two black Honda Accords collided at the intersection of 10 Mile Rd. and Ryan Rd..
Police said the driver of one of the Accords was trying to turn left into the Tim Horton’s parking lot on Ryan, when it was struck by the other Accord, which was traveling northbound.
A front seat passenger in one of the cars was pronounced dead on the scene, police said, while another passenger in that car was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver that car suffered only minor injuries, but was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
The two people in the other car were also taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Warren Police Chief Bill Dwyer said, in a statement: "It is unfortunate when somebody loses their life in a traffic crash. The fact that there have been two fatal crashes within 24 hours is very remarkable."
Dwyer said both of these crashes remain under investigation, adding: "Our condolences go out to all the families affected by these horrible incidents.”
The names of the people who died were not immediately released.
