WARREN (WWJ) -- A police officer is in the hospital with serious injures, and a suspect is in jail, after a police chase and a pair of crashes in Warren.
According to Warren Police, just before noon on Thursday, officers tried to pull over over the driver of a silver Cadillac near I-696 and Dequindre Rd. for having an improper or invalid license plate.
The driver didn't stop, police siad, but instead sped away, leading officers on a chase.
The pursuit ended at ended at the intersection of westbound 8 Mile Rd, and Mound Rd., when police said the suspect ran a red light and crashed into two other vehicles.
The pursuing officer was then involved in what the Warren PD described as as "a separate, single-vehicle crash," at the same intersection.
The officer had to be rescued from the car by Warren Firefighters and was hospital and is in serious condition.
The 33-year-old Cadillac driver police on the chase was arrested on the scene and taken to the Warren Police Department jail with charges pending.
Police said the man's passenger, his 12-year old daughter, was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The other drivers involved in the crash with the Cadillac weren't hurt.
The Warren Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.
Police said southbound Mound Rd. near 8 Mile Road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
No names were immediately released.
