
WARREN (WWJ) -- Charges have been filed against a Macomb County woman involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash.
Investigators said 36-year-old Meghan Hamilton of Warren drove away from a crash early Sunday morning, Aug. 10, on I-696 near Hoover Rd.
Warren Police said 28-year-old Madison Heights woman was pulled over on the shoulder at around 1:15, side, trying to put gas in her car when she was hit by a Chevy SUV. The driver didn't stop at the scene, and didn't call 911.
The woman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Officials said an investigation found that Hamilton's car had damage consistent with a crash, she also allegedly admitted to police that she was involved.
Hamilton was arraigned in 37th District Court on Wednesday on one count of failure to stop at scene of accident resulting in death, which is a 5-year felony.
Bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety only. If she is released on bond, she was ordered to wear a a GPS tether and not use drugs or alcohol.
Hamilton's next scheduled court date is Aug. 28.
Police said, in a statement: "The Warren Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family of the victim. We would like to thank the public who assisted investigators during this investigation. The Warren Police Department reminds all drivers of their legal obligation to remain at the scene of a crash until the necessary legal obligations are fulfilled."
