LIMA TWP (WWJ) -- Alcohol appears to be a factor in a collision and car fire that killed a Dexter man and his dog on Saturday.
Just before 8 a.m., dispatch sent state troopers from the Brighton Post to check out a vehicle fire near Lima Center and Seitz Rd, an area just north of I-94, halfway between Ann Arbor and Chelsea.
Michigan State Police located the car in question and found the driver inside, along with his dog. Both were already deceased.
After further investigation, MSP concluded that the vehicle went off the road and slammed into an unnamed barrier, causing the car to catch fire.
No other vehicles were involved.
Officers identified the driver as Karl Weber, 33, of Dexter, who authorities believe may have been driving while intoxicated.
The investigation remains open pending an autopsy and the results of a toxicology report.
