ALLEN PARK (WWJ) -- A driver in Allen Park was shot at after throwing a water bottle at another car during a fit of road rage.

According to Michigan State Police, the incident happened Thursday afternoon while the victim and suspect were nearing a construction zone on westbound I-94 near Oakwood where freeway road closures began.

The victim told authorities that this occurrence started because of road rage when they threw an almost empty water bottle at the suspect.

Afterward, the suspect began following the victim, said officials.

The victim attempted to get away from the suspect multiple times, but it was unsuccessful.

The victim said when they quickly accelerated and exited at Pelham, he heard a loud “Boom.” The suspect fired one shot, MSP said.

MSP said the suspect continued westbound I-94 freeway from Pelham after the shooting.

The victim continued to drive away to ensure he was not being followed until he went to a safe spot and called 911. He didn't end up being hit, but troopers did find bullet fragments that struck the car.

Authorities are looking for the suspect, who is described as a large-built Black male with long curly hair. He was driving a dark maroon Honda Ridgeline pickup truck.

The investigation is ongoing.
