ROMULUS (WWJ) – A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for the city of Romulus after a water main break over the weekend caused some residents to lose water pressure.

The advisory was announced just after midnight due to the low pressure and late Sunday afternoon city officials said they had identified the source.

The main break was discovered in the area of Middlebelt Road, south of Eureka. Crews were called to the site to begin repairs.

Officials said the Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect for at least 24 hours, until Monday.

The city released a map that roughly shows the affected area.

All residents are being told to not drink the water without boiling it first. Due to the drop in pressure, officials say bacterial contamination may have occurred.

“Bacteria are generally not harmful and are common throughout our environment. Corrective measures are currently being undertaken to correct the situation,” a press release from the city said.

Officials have not said what may have caused the water main break.
