WATERFORD (WWJ) Waterford Police arrested a man accused of exposing himself to a woman in a park parking lot.
Waterford Police said the incident occurred at Waterford Oaks County Park on Scott Lake Road near Watkins Lake Road on Thursday, September 10.
According to authorities, the victim, while seated in her vehicle with the driver's door open, noticed a tan-colored SUV "several spaces away." Minutes later, the SUV backed in next to her. She shut her door.
"The driver of the SUV exited his vehicle and opened the driver's door, standing in the doorway next to the victim, with his pants down to his knees and fondling himself," police said in a statement. "....The victim was fearful the man was going to assault her."
She put her arm up, pushed the suspect out and closed and locked the door.
The suspect returned to his car and fled the park, according to police.
The victim jotted down the license plate number of the SUV and passed it on to police. A Flock automatic license plate reader took a picture of the suspect's vehicle and plate as it entered the park. Authorities matched it to a 2007 Chevy Tahoe registered to an address in Sterling Heights.
Waterford Police eventually tracked the vehicle to an address in the area of 15 Mile and Utica Road. They notified Sterling Heights Police, who arrested the suspect at the address.
After the arrest, officers found duct tape, rope and zip ties inside his SUV.
Waterford Police identified the suspect as Karl Teschler, 46. Prosecutors charged Teschler with Aggravated Indecent Exposure, a High Misdemeanor punishable by two years in prison and a $2,000 fine; and Assault with Intent to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct 4th Degree by Force or Coercion, a 5-year felony.
He's slated for video arraignment from the Oakland County Jail, and a probable cause conference within 14 days.
"The victim in this case is to be commended for being aware of her surroundings and being alert with her observations of the suspect vehicle," police said. "She also had the presence of mind to get the license plate number and provide that information to responding Officers."
