WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- A former teacher in Oakland County as been charged with a felony after allegedly having sex with one of her teenaged students.

Investigators said the 26-year-old allegedly told another teacher that she was having sex with a 16-year-old student, and the teacher reported her to law enforcement.

Sanroman was charged with three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct - Third Degree.

“This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim,” said Prosecutor Karen McDonald, in a media release. “These allegations represent the ultimate breach of trust placed in educators by parents and the community. As a former teacher myself, I applaud the teacher who contacted police about this situation, protecting other students from further exploitation.”

Officials did not say if this happened at the school, or where the alleged crimes took place.

If convicted as charged, Sanroman faces up to 15 years in prison.
