DETROIT (WWJ) -- Today, Executive Warren C. Evans announced Wayne County's Department of Public Services' list of 2021 Capital Improvement and Road Maintenance projects. The county will invest over $100M into its infrastructure this construction season. Improvements will consist of over 25 road construction projects and 8 bridge capital improvement projects and nearly 70 pavement improvement projects covering primary and local roads.

This season also marks the implementation of Wayne County's 10-Year Asset Management Plan (TAMP). The plan will focus on preventative maintenance for the county's roads and bridges. As a result of the plan's implementation, the Roads Division will more than double the number of lane miles paved this season, from 33 in 2020 to 76 in 2021, as a part of their Heavy Maintenance Program. To assist with heavy maintenance projects the county has hired additional seasonal staff.

In addition to their road and bridge projects, the county will also invest over $5M into improving county-owned parks. Some of these improvements include: continued renovations to exhibits at Nankin Mills, the installation of an outdoor fitness gym and senior exercise equipment at Bell Creek Park and upgrades to their favored Dog Park.  Additionally, the Parks Division continues to partner with other communities within Wayne County to improve and beautify their parkland.

"We continue to look for ways to get more out of our state and federal dollars while improving our roads and bridges and I believe that our asset management plan will help us achieve this goal," said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. "Our team has done a dynamic job in the midst of a pandemic continuing to service our citizens and I'm hopeful that this year will be no different."

To aid in efficiency, productivity and to improve the customer experience, the Equipment Division will spend over $14M on fleet and technology upgrades. The technology upgrades will equip more County trucks with a state-of-the-art camera system and allow for clearer and faster viewing in conjunction with the Wayne County Compass app, used primarily during Snow and Ice Season. The county anticipates their entire fleet to be equipped with these upgrades within the next 3 years.

"The Department of Public Services remains driven and focused on improving county infrastructure and parks to promote healthy and connected communities", said Beverly Watts, Director of Public Services.

Wayne County's construction season officially kicked off on April 15th and runs through the end of November.
