Lucky lotto numbers pay big: Wayne County woman wins $1M prize after playing 'special set' of numbers for over 20 years

WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - Some superstitions might be worth holding onto as one Wayne County woman recently found out when she nabbed a $1 million prize.

According to the Michigan Lottery, the 63-year-old player matched the winning Lotto 47 numbers 02-05-08-10-17-29 back on October 28 -- the very same set of "special" numbers she had been playing with for over two decades.

"I play Lotto 47 every week using the special set of lottery numbers that I've been playing for more than 20 years," said the player, who chose to stay anonymous. "I check my tickets every morning after the drawing, and when I saw I matched all the numbers, all I could do was stand there in shock. I've been waiting until I got the check to tell my family and friends, because I still don't believe it's real. It's been two weeks and I still can't wrap my head around it!"

The player purchased her winning ticket at Baas Mini Mart, located at 31301 Five Mile Road in Livonia.

The 63-year-old recently claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters where she chose to take a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000, rather than annuity payments for the full amount.

With her winnings, she plans to pay bills, share with her family, and then save the remainder for retirement.

As described by the Michigan Lottery, each Lotto 47 play is only $1. Players select six numbers from one to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot starting at $1 million and that grows until someone wins it.

For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Lotto 47 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $1.5 million in the nightly Double Play drawing. For an additional $1 per game, players may add EZMatch to their ticket for a chance to win up to $500 instantly, lottery officials added.

Lotto 47 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
