OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) A major ramp closure will cause some big headaches for drivers in Oakland County throughout the summer.
As of 9 a.m. Monday, May 4, MDOT has closed down the westbound I-696 ramp to Lahser, Telegraph and Northwestern Highway as a part of the three-year-long Phase 2 of the "Restore The Reuther" Project.
"We're removing the old concrete, replacing the sewer in the median, putting in cement treated base, six inches of base, on top of that, we pave our concrete," Project Manager for the I-696 "Restore the Reuther" Project Brian Travis told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "So pretty much all the roadway is being rebuilt here."
MDOT says drivers will need to plan ahead, as Southfield Road will be the last exit until Orchard Lake.
MDOT spokesperson Diane Cross said she expects crews to reopen both sides of I-696 by the end of 2026.
