ANN ARBOR (WWJ) – Many Metro Detroiters will have an eye on the Southeast Michigan forecast over the next few days with some big events on the calendar – the Michigan-Michigan State football game and Halloween.
And for late October, AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Thompson says it doesn’t look “all that bad.”
Speaking live on WWJ’ “Weather Wednesday” segment, Thompson said “it’s looking great for the game.”
“You really couldn’t ask for much better weather,” he said. “If you’re gonna be tailgating throughout the day, it looks like we’re gonna have lots of sunshine, it’s gonna be comfortable.”
It will be a bit chilly for those early tailgaters, though, with temps starting out in the 30s early Saturday morning before climbing into the mid-50s by around noon.
The high is expected to be about 63 around 3 p.m. Saturday. With no breeze expected, Thompson says that means if you’re in the sun it will feel pretty warm.
“If you’re gonna be outside in the sun for any length of time you may even want the sunscreen,” he said. “I know it’s a little cooler, but you still can get a sunburn this time of year.”
By the time the 7:30 p.m. kickoff rolls around, the temperature will be down to about 49 and fall to about 40 by the end of the game. He doesn’t expect wind or rian to have any impact on the game itself.
“Even though it may feel pretty warm during the day, you’ll definitely want to dress in layers for the game,” he said.
As for Halloween on Monday, Thompson says it’s “not perfect, but we’ve had worse.”
“I think it is gonna be mostly cloudy throughout the day and probably into Monday evening, too,” he said. “At this point we are anticipating a couple of showers. Doesn’t look like a lot of rain at this point. It’s not one of those Halloweens where it’s just gonna be pouring rain, at least that’s the way it looks right now. Again, probably not a perfectly dry evening.”
Halloween temperatures really won’t be all that cold for this time of year, according to Thompson. We’re looking at temps in the low and mid-50s around trick-or-treating time.
“Might need a jacket, but I don’t think it’s one of those years you’ll need a heavy winter coat over the costume,” Thompson said.
He noted there may be a few “showers on the lighter side” throughout the day, but nothing major.
